Trevor Noah will be stepping down as host of The Daily Show after seven years at the helm, Comedy Central announced on Monday.

Noah joined The Daily Show in September 2015 as a correspondent, and took over as host in September 2016 after the departure of Jon Stewart.

Under Noah’s tenure, the show won two Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Variety Talk Series in 2018 and 2020.

“It’s been an honor to host this Emmy-winning show and it’s been a dream come true,” Noah said in a statement.
“I’m excited to pursue new opportunities, but I will always be grateful to The Daily Show and to Comedy Central for giving me this platform.”

Comedy Central has not announced who will be taking over as host of The Daily Show. The network said that a search for a new host will begin immediately.

Noah’s departure comes as The Daily Show is undergoing a creative resurgence, with its ratings up double digits in 2020.
