In February this year, award-winning actor Jennifer Lawrence and her art gallery owner partner, Cooke Maroney welcomed their first child, a baby boy.

The pair are notoriously quiet about their private lives, and only revealed the child’s name to Vogue in September. They named him ‘Cy’ after the postwar American painter Cy Twombly, who is one of Maroney’s favourite artists.

While Lawrence spent lots of time allowing herself to adapt to the new rhythms of motherhood, she admits that she was nervous about the transition at first.

Particularly plaguing her was the worry that she wouldn’t bond with the child as she should, or as strongly as she had with say, her cat.

“It’s so scary to talk about motherhood. Only because it’s so different for everybody,” she admitted in the Vogue interview.

“I remember walking with one of my best friends at, like, nine months, and being like, 'Everyone keeps saying that I will love my baby more than my cat. But that’s not true. Maybe I’ll love him as much as my cat'?”

“Fortunately, I have so many girlfriends who were honest. Who were like, ‘It’s scary. You might not connect right away. You might not fall in love right away.’ So I felt so prepared to be forgiving.”

Luckily for Lawrence, the love came quickly and she had a great fondness for her new family addition.

“The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, Now is day one of my life. I just stared. I was just so in love,” she explained.

After giving birth to Cy, she was very clear about how parenthood has transformed her, Lawrence said: “My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn’t know about.”
