David Burton, a councilman in Parwan, Utah, USA, said the prairie dog is an endangered species. Residents of southern and western Utah are interested in caring for this special animal.
The people of the region have agreed to retreat in favor of the prairie dog. For the last fifty years they have preferred the prairie dog.
Prairie dogs were listed as endangered in 1973. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources now wants the species federally listed. The organization recommends delisting the prairie dog as an endangered species.
“Fifty years later, we think the prairie dog population has tripled,” said Kim Hersey, mammal conservation coordinator. But they had to endure a lot to achieve such success in the environmental sector.
For example, rioting in airports, attacking coffins in cemeteries, etc. Burton says that “prairie dogs took precedence over the people buried there”. “There are some assets that can’t be sold and some assets that can’t be built,” said Parowan Mayor Molly Halterman.
DWR will continue to manage the animal’s population under the Utah Prairie Dog Conservation Strategy. Such activities will be conducted in the future as well. Parowan must give importance to major agricultural and development decisions. But even more important than this is the issue of coexistence with prairie dogs.
Holterman says they are no longer endangered. Prairie dog populations have increased. We are happy with this success.
