Scientists have revealed surprising information about the mummy of a teenager who died 2300 years ago. The teenager was buried in Egypt. His remains were long known as the Golden Boy.
Radiologists at Cairo University in Egypt are using the CT scan method to find vital information without injury. The researchers observed that many valuables were included with the teenager.
For example, 49 expensive amulets can be mentioned. Amulets were used to protect the body of the teenager and keep him healthy. Again gold amulets are used in the mouth so that the deceased can speak in the afterlife.
Sahar Salim, professor of radiology and researcher at Cairo University’s Faculty of Medicine, said the boy was likely from a wealthy family. Ancient Egyptians believed in the power of amulets. Talismans are used to keep the boys’ remains intact and healthy.
The method used to mummify the teenager is quite expensive. Also mummies were prepared with great care. He probably belonged to a rich and noble family.
Prior to the new study, the teenager’s mummy was kept in the basement of an Egyptian magician in Cairo. The boy was 14 or 15 years old. His height will be 4 feet 2 inches or 128 cm. An investigation found no cause of death for the boy.
The teenager was placed in two types of coffins. He was buried with a golden mask. According to ancient Egyptian custom, white sandals were buried with the dead to maintain purity and cleanliness. Most of the amulets found in the study were made of gold.
