The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the oldest branches of literature. Its story was about Gilgamesh’s story of immortality. Humans have always had the desire to conquer death. But no one could overcome the laws of nature.
Aging occurs primarily at the cellular level. Because cell division stops there. Lobster contains an enzyme called telomerase that prevents aging. Standing with a skeleton is a constant challenge.
Although lobsters do not really have immortality, they are able to offer a close analogy. Another excellent example of such a feature is the jellyfish Turritopsis dohrni. A novel feature of these animals is that their life cycle changes when faced with adversity.
In many cases, this species of jellyfish reaches an earlier stage of development through the life cycle. This makes it possible to sustain their existence for an indefinite period of time. But immortality does not exist in the world of nature.
But there is no chance of life being prolonged through evolution. Evolution is essentially what happens from one generation to another. We all desire eternal life.
There could be multiple reasons behind this. Like fear of death or leaving loved ones behind etc. We die because we have to experience life and enjoy life anew.
Our life becomes sweeter because we have to embrace death. True immortality, be it a lobster or a jellyfish, is rarely found in the mundane world. Perhaps the beauty of our lives is enhanced because there is death.
