Kerry Washington Unveils Memoir Cover for ‘Thicker Than Water’: Shares Water Experience for Self-Connection
On March 29, Kerry Washington revealed the final cover of her upcoming memoir, Thicker Than Water. The cover features a linen portrait of herself submerged underwater, with her reflection gleaming across the liquid surface.
According to Enews, the oil painting portrait was created by Reisha Perlmutter, an artist known for her portraits of women in water. Washington explained that stories about water kept presenting themselves as she wrote her book and she realized how fundamental water and swimming have been in her life.
“Often when I am in water, I feel more connected to myself and my truth, so as I thought about creating a cover for this book, I felt that an image of myself underwater might help convey how much of my true self I am offering to readers,” Washington said.
The Scandal alum also shared her experience of posing for the memoir cover, “This was, by far, the most fun I have ever had on a photo shoot because I was in one of my favorite places in the world, doing one of the things I love to do most: swim and play in the water!”
Thicker Than Water is set to be released on April 5, and it promises to explore the many identities that have defined Washington throughout her life. From her childhood in the Bronx, to her rise to fame as an actress, and her role as a mother and activist, the memoir offers an intimate look at the woman behind some of the most iconic characters on TV and film.
