Republicans now have a majority in the House of Representatives after the midterm election in the United States. However, it cannot be said for sure whether there would be much change in the foreign policy because the foreign policy of the Democratic and Republican camps is not very different.
At present, the House of Representatives may be dominated by the extreme right-wing. They may try to pass some such legislation in Congress. With the House of Representatives now in Republican hands, the moderates on Israel and Palestine will be weakened.
Republicans dominate the House of Representatives at a time when Yair Lapid has regained power in Israel. Republicans will not have the support of the Democrats’ core of liberal democrats.
But support for Israel is now more likely to strengthen in the US Congress. The way the US Congress has so far tried to mediate between Palestine and Israel may be hindered.
But Republicans are keen to get closer to Saudi Arabia and Israel. At the same time, they want to visit a tough stance against Iran. Nancy Pelosi served as the Speaker of the US Parliament for a long time.
Perhaps next time, there will be a speaker who strongly supports Israel and Zionism. Republicans may be tough on young liberal Democratic members of Congress like Ilhan Omar.
Because these members of Congress condemned the US support for Israel, they want the US to stop giving Israel any kind of financial aid. That’s why Republicans don’t like these members of Congress.
However, a poll shows that 58 percent of the American public favors Israel and Zionism. But the world waits to see what Biden does for two more years when Republicans hold a strong position in Congress.
