The Google Threat Analysis Group (TAG) recently published a report on Iranian hackers. Reports say that state-sponsored Iranian hackers have illegally gained access to Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook inboxes.
Hackers in Iran have infiltrated emails and downloaded important and sensitive messages and content, posing a threat to users.
Those hackers managed to develop a hacking tool called Hyperscape. Through this hacking tool, they have made cyber-attacks in many places. US users have been the victims of most of the attacks.
However, the Google team managed to get hold of a version of the hacking tool and researched it. Google also said that this attack was carried out with utmost confidentiality. Intruded covertly in a way that the user cannot easily perceive.
Common methods of hacking, such as trying to get someone to download something enticing and then inject a virus or malware into the computer, No such method was used. Instead, Iranian hackers tried to find system vulnerabilities and used stolen cookies. This is how they sneak in.
Google is trying to understand how any vulnerability in the system can become a threat in the future. Cyber attacks have become quite easy these days by stealing cookies.
Google said in their report that notifications had been sent to accounts that have been hacked. The hacking method used in Gmail is similar to that used in Yahoo and Outlook accounts.
Google is working to make its Gmail account more secure against Iranian hackers.
