Hornet Spook Light: Strange Story that is Prevalent in Missouri

Yousuf ParvezBy Yousuf ParvezNovember 14, 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

There are few people in the US state of Missouri who have not heard the story of the ‘Hornet Spook Light’. There is the village of Hornet near the Oklahoma border. Although Hornet village is far from the main city, people visit here to see a ghostly light with their own eyes.

Hornet Spook Light

The natives of that village grew up hearing the story of the Hornet Spook Light. You have to go to that village by Missouri Highway-66. A ghostly light can be seen on this street, the story of which has been told by the locals from generation to generation.

This round light comes out of the forest only at night. It can’t be seen every night. Because of this, a cheeky name has been added to this street – Devil’s Promenade.

According to those who have seen it, this spook light disappears as soon as you move towards it!

Spook Light is best seen from the Hornet, hence the name Hornet Village. But its actual presence is just across the Missouri border in front of the town of Quapaw, Oklahoma.

Local resident and author Vance Randolph described his experience in a 1947 essay. He claimed to have seen this light three times. He saw this yellowish light in front of his eyes, starting from the size of an egg to a big ball.

In his description, it is also found that this light split into three or four parts before the eyes of some witnesses, and they even said that the color changed to red, blue, and even green. Some of them even said that they saw the radiation of light spreading around from it. They also felt a slight heat.

Some argue that marsh gas from the surrounding marshes may be the cause of the spook lights. The problem is that marsh gas can produce such light, but it needs an effector. This gas cannot burn by itself.

More importantly, if spook lights were created from marsh gas, then it should be extinguished by rain and wind, which is not the case.

If you want, you can go to Devil’s Promenade. If you’re lucky, you can see the spook lights on a dark night! But if you are weak-minded, it might be better not to go!
