A massive 9.4-foot bluefin tuna fish was harvested from a river in the state of Massachusetts, USA, last week. Officials in Rhode Island took the fish because the boat that caught it did not have valid papers.
The Rhodes Island Environment Office said the boat caught and killed the bluefin tuna in violation of the law because that boat had no valid license.
The boat is later brought back to shore, and the tuna is sold to a licensed marine fishmonger. A case was filed against the boat for hunting and killing fish in the sea in violation of the law.
You will be surprised that this tuna fish will cost around 10 thousand dollars because the demand for fish is very high nowadays. It is eaten as a food in Japan. This type of fish can measure up to 113 inches and weigh up to 800 pounds.
The state’s Department of Environment states that the existence of tuna is critical to maintaining the marine ecosystem. No one can fish tuna in the sea except those who have a license. Police on the island of Rhodes says they are determined to protect all marine resources.
Another 11 large bluefin tuna were caught that day. The average weight of these tuna fish was 600 pounds, and the size was 100 inches. These tuna fish are hunted in nearby rivers.
