Facebook users can now play multiplayer games while video calling their friends and family on Messenger, providing a new way for gaming enthusiasts to satisfy their competitive cravings. According to a report by Engadget, the new feature is available for iOS, Android, and web users and requires no special installation. The announcement by Facebook states that players can compete against each other in 14 different games and roast their gaming partners while exchanging revolting barbs.
The selection of games includes popular titles such as Card Wars, Exploding Kittens, Words With Friends, and Mini Golf FRVR. Each game has been customized for Messenger with clearly-distinguished leaderboards and a user interface that complements the Messenger experience. Although each game requires at least two players, the maximum number of players may differ from game to game.
To access the feature, users need to tap the video call button on Messenger, select the group mode button, choose the Play option, and select the game they want to play. The feature has been in development for several years and is a promising advancement for Facebook’s gaming platform.
Facebook had previously tested various options and features for Messenger-enabled games without much success. However, this feature is expected to attract a considerable number of gamers. Facebook is also planning to add more games to the platform and is urging developers to contact their Partner Manager for further details.
This development follows the recent closure of the standalone Facebook Gaming app by Meta, the parent company of Facebook. Despite the limited number of games available at launch, the feature is likely to attract a considerable number of users and contribute to the growth of Facebook’s gaming platform.
