Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ show Secret Invasion. Clarke will be playing the character of G’iah, a Skrull who has previously appeared on screen and may already be familiar to some Marvel fans.
Scheduled to premiere at the end of June 2023, Secret Invasion will further explore a teased element from the 2019 film Captain Marvel, which is where audiences first caught a glimpse of G’iah.
Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared more details about Clarke’s character in an interview with Vanity Fair. Jackson said that G’iah is the grown-up version of the little Skrull girl that audiences saw with Ben and his wife and daughter in Captain Marvel. He also revealed that G’iah is Ben’s daughter.
Clarke also spoke to Vanity Fair about her character, stating that playing G’iah has been a thrilling experience. According to Clarke, G’iah is a refugee who has had Talos for a dad. There is a “punk feeling” to the character, and Clarke says that G’iah’s relationship with her father speaks volumes about their dynamic.
G’iah is also disillusioned with Nick Fury and his fellow humans, according to Clarke. “These people promised a lot of stuff a long time ago, and not a lot has happened,” she said. “So understandably, a certain amount of resentment has been built.”
Secret Invasion is set to debut on Disney+ on June 21, and Marvel fans are eagerly anticipating Clarke’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
