Elon Musk has expressed the significance of verifying the affiliation of individuals with the organisations they claim to represent on Twitter. In response to a tweet by Twitter Verified, Musk highlighted the need to prevent impersonation on the platform.
“Verified Organisations” is a new feature introduced by Twitter to help organisations and their affiliates distinguish themselves on the microblogging site. Organisations and their affiliates who sign up for Verified Organisations are responsible for verifying the accounts affiliated with them, instead of relying on Twitter as the sole arbiter of truth for which accounts should be verified, as stated in the tweet.
Users who belong to a company will receive an affiliate badge on their profile along with the organisation’s logo. They will also be listed on the organisation’s Twitter profile, indicating their affiliation. Before joining Verified Organisations, all organisations are carefully vetted.
Twitter has seen various companies, including sports teams, news organisations, financial firms, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofits, join Verified Organisations and list their affiliated accounts publicly on their profiles, according to the tweet. Moreover, Verified Organisations are available globally, and approved companies will receive invitations via email.
Subscribed organisations will receive a gold checkmark and square avatar if they are a business or non-profit, or a grey checkmark and circular avatar if they are a governmental or multilateral organisation.
