Canon EOS R6 Mark II: pro performance in smaller form

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is a mirrorless camera that looks like a compact DSLR. It’s designed to attract people who currently own a DSLR to switch to Canon’s newer EOS R mirrorless system. The EOS R6 Mark II is for those who want a high-quality camera for serious photography.

The camera feels solid and sturdy, just like a professional camera should, thanks to its magnesium alloy construction. It has a multi-function shoe on the top for attaching accessories like a flashgun. The camera’s shooting modes can be linked directly to the flash, making it easier to take professional photos in low light.

The camera handles like a smaller version of a DSLR. It’s easy to hold and all the buttons are in the right place. The electronic viewfinder is so detailed that you might forget that you’re not using a traditional optical viewfinder. The EOS R6 Mark II has built-in image stabilizationization, which Canon claims is the best in the world, providing the equivalent of 8 stops of compensation.

The camera’s autofocus system is fast and accurate, and can now detect a wider range of subjects, including trains, horses, and aircraft. The resolution has been increased to 24.2 megapixels, which is more than enough for those who prioritize speed over image size. The camera can shoot in low light, with a light sensitivity range up to ISO102,400, and has Bluetooth 5.0 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi for wireless transfer.

The EOS R6 Mark II can shoot both stills and videos, with the ability to shoot 4K video at 60fps, or 6K Raw video to an external recorder. The flip-out LCD screen is useful for taking photos from low angles. The camera supports two SD cards, but does not support the faster CFexpress. If you need CFexpress support, you’ll need to look for a higher-end camera like the Canon EOS R3.
