During her Las Vegas residency show on Saturday at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Adele surprised the audience by revealing that she once drank four bottles of wine before lunchtime during lockdown.
The singer, who was sipping a glass of wine on stage at the time, made the confession while talking to the crowd. “I remember when I came here in Covid, in lockdown, it was 11 a.m. and I was definitely like four bottles of wine in — like we all were,” Adele said, according to The Sun.
Adele also told the audience that during the lockdown in 2020, she and many others were drinking heavily. “I said in 2020 that I wanted to put my album out. And we were all at home just drunk basically,” she added.
The musician had previously spoken about her decision to stop drinking after her estranged father, Mark Evans, died from bowel cancer in May 2021. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Adele said, “That’s one great way of really sort of getting to know yourself, is just drinking water and being sober as anything.”
Despite her previous struggles with alcohol, Adele surprised fans at her final show in Vegas by announcing that she is extending her Las Vegas residency, adding 34 shows running up until November. She also announced that she will be releasing a concert film.
Adele has been open about her personal struggles and her journey to sobriety. Her honest and relatable nature has made her a beloved figure among her fans, and her latest confession about her lockdown drinking habits only endeared her to them even more.
