Suckermouth catfish is one of the fish that you will see used in aquariums. However, it has been banned in Bangladesh due to its threat to aquatic ecosystems. Many people also know it as monster Suckermouth catfish.
This fish was actually imported from overseas to clean the aquarium glass of dirt and algae. Aquatic insects and small fish are their preferred food.
The surprising fact is that this fish can live up to 24 hours without contact with water. Suckermouth catfish have reproduced very rapidly in recent times. Because people don’t eat these fish, it was not possible to reduce their number.
Studies have shown that it eats fish eggs and larvae, disrupting the reproduction of other fish. It can survive in any environment. Suckermouth catfish could be a threat to native fish breeding.
Although branch fish is eaten in many parts of the world, it is not very popular in Bangladesh. As well as its bizarre appearance, the head and body cover is also quite tough.
Experts have said that there is also the presence of harmful heavy substances in the body of this fish. As a result, eating this fish can be harmful. Therefore, eating this fish will be harmful to health except for experiments. It can even carry long-term risks. At present, it is completely prohibited to raise, transport, and even store fish in aquariums.
