Street Fighter fans have reason to celebrate as Legendary Entertainment has announced that it will be producing a new live-action film and television series based on the popular video game franchise. The studio has acquired exclusive rights to the franchise from video game publisher Capcom.
Currently, a feature film based on the games is in development. Street Fighter, created by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto, was first released in 1987. The franchise has since become a fan favorite, with its iconic characters and signature moves captivating gamers worldwide.
While the 1994 film adaptation of Street Fighter received negative reviews, it was a modest hit at the box office. The 2009 film The Legend of Chun-Li, however, was roundly panned by critics and failed to make a mark at the box office.
Legendary Entertainment has been on a roll lately, with successful productions such as the Sonic films, Sony’s Uncharted, and HBO’s hit drama The Last of Us. The studio has also secured a distribution deal with Sony and has Dune: Part Two slated for release on November 3.
Details on the plot and casting for the upcoming Street Fighter film and series have yet to be announced, but fans are eagerly anticipating more news. With Legendary Entertainment at the helm, the franchise is expected to reach new heights and attract an even wider audience.
