Scientists have noticed an interesting thing about explosions in space. You will be surprised to know that this explosion took place about 180 million light years away from Earth. But explosions in space were not what they usually look like.
Usually, explosions look like balls or stars in space. Scientists think that this explosion looks like a flat disk. Physicists aren’t quite sure why it looks the way it does.
When a star explodes it is surrounded by a thick disk. It is believed that the explosion was not completely successful. This burst was quite bright and is being called a Fast Blue Optical Transient.
Such explosions are quite rare. It is as bright as it looks and such events happen quite quickly. By polarizing light, scientists are trying to learn more about the explosion.
A telescope at La Palma was used to get a better view of the explosion. Although the telescope was not too large to see, it was possible to clearly see the explosion.
The discovery of such phenomena is significant for scientists to obtain important information about fast blue optical transients. Physicists are currently planning to use a large telescope in Chile to better observe phenomena related to fast blue optical transients.
Dr Justin Mound, the lead author of the study from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sheffield, said: “We have very little information about FBOT explosions. It does not behave like exploding stars, they are very bright and expand very quickly. Simply put, the phenomenon seemed quite strange to the researchers.
