The Olympic gymnast took to Instagram on Tuesday to update fans on her progress, sharing a photo of herself in a bathing suit with the caption, "extra happy."

Maroney, who is currently training at the World Champions Centre in Texas, appears to be in good spirits as she works her way back from a serious injury.

The 21-year-old underwent surgery last December to repair a broken tibia and fibula, which she suffered during a training session.

Since then, she's been making slow but steady progress, and is clearly excited to be back in the gym.

"It feels so good to be back in the gym!" she wrote on Instagram last week. "I've been working so hard and I'm feeling stronger every day."

Maroney is a two-time Olympian and a member of the "Fierce Five" team that won gold at the 2012 Summer Games.

She's also a world champion on vault, and has earned multiple medals at the World Championships and Pacific Rim Championships.
