The rapper Coolio has died at the age of 59, his manager has confirmed.

Coolio, real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr., passed away on Monday, August 17. The cause of death is not yet known.

“His wife and family ask for privacy at this time. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support,” his manager said in a statement.

Coolio was best known for his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which spent 12 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

Coolio also had success with the singles “Fantastic Voyage” and “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New).”
