Apple has published iOS and iPadOS 15.4.1, a software update that corrects several accessibility issues, enhances security, and addresses a power drain issue that affected some people’s phones and iPads after they updated to iOS 15.4.
It’s unclear how common the problem was but Apple Support advised customers complaining about power depletion earlier this month that it was “standard for your applications and features to need to adjust up to 48 hours after an update.” Despite the fact that the update was issued over two weeks ago, it’s not difficult to discover current threads complaining about poor battery life.
Even if your battery has been performing admirably, it may be important to update it as soon as possible. Apple claims that iOS 15.4.1 (as well as macOS Monterey 12.3.1, which was also published today) contain security fixes for flaws that might have been exploited in the wild. Unfortunately, this type of warning has become rather common in Apple’s security advisories – while delaying upgrades forever is never a good idea, it appears that it’s more necessary than ever to make sure your devices are running the most recent version of their OS.
To update your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. To update your Mac, go to System Preferences > Software Update.
