As the 2023 season approaches, it’s only natural that the excitement in the racing world will increase. A new class prototype called LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) is set to replace the famous DPi prototype. These LMDh cars will follow the rules of both the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Cadillac recently unveiled the Project GTP hypercar, a concept version of the LMDh class. The car will compete with Porsche, BMW and others, aiming for the overall victory in some of the most prestigious motorsport events. Chris Michaluskas, Cadillac’s chief exterior designer, expressed his excitement about the new class. He says it ushered in a new golden age of racing where race cars could be pretty cool.
Mikalauskas noted that the Project GTP hypercar’s surprising features are that it is wider, lower and longer than the outgoing DPi car. This makes the car look sleek and stylish. It’s a dream come true for designers like Mikalauskas. Because they have more influence on race car design than previous models.
In the past OEM designs were limited in appearance. However, with the LMDH car, Cadillac Racing worked closely with chassis supplier Dallara to ensure that the new car performed well and reflected Cadillac’s unique design style.
Michaluskas drew inspiration from Cadillac’s history and space. incorporated this effect into a contemporary design. He aimed to capture the essence of Cadillac’s most memorable cars inspired by the past space race. Cadillac’s performance cars will continue to exist well into the future, bringing together aesthetics for their individuality.
