World Book Day was celebrated for the first time in 1995 with the help of UNESCO. Earlier, Book Day was celebrated only in one country of the world. And that country was Spain of Europe. Since 1995, April 23 has been celebrated with due dignity as World Book Day.
There have been many discussions in the past about the importance of reading books or the greatness of reading books. Even now there is no end of discussion about it. UNESCO has always been promoting the importance of reading books worldwide. There are many great-hearted people in the world with whom we cannot communicate directly.
But it is possible to communicate with them indirectly by reading their books. We can get familiar with their words and sentences mentioned in the book. By reading books we can get familiar with their thoughts and mentality.
Along with Book Day, 23rd April is also celebrated as Copyright Day. Many organizations are working to increase reading in our country. Youth are being motivated at the field level. Giving books as gifts is part of the social norms of our country.
The day should be properly observed to develop the mindset of reading books. The most interesting thing is that every year on Book Day, the United Nations declares the book capital. Next year, Strasbourg will be the book capital of France. This year, Accra, Ghana has gained fame as the book capital.
Earlier in 2022, a city in Mexico was declared as the book capital. There was a time when the youth of Bangladesh used to stay awake at night immersed in the pages of books. Today, thanks to technology, young people have chosen to read books through various devices.
